Cross-Cultural Awareness

One Day Course

Purpose of this course

The international movement of professionals, especially in IT, means that increasing numbers of workgroups have two or more nationalities represented. Although the working language is the same, the way in which each responds to an idea or statement may vary widely. The national cultures, amongst other factors, lead to markedly different responses. This workshop opens eyes to the major differences and provides tools to enable participants to communicate and manage effectively across cultures.

The workshop is tuned to address the specific cultural mix encountered by each workshop’s participants.

What is Culture?

Even in this cosmopolitan world we grow up immersed in the (unspoken) rules and values of our native country. These affect our perceptions, judgements, motivation and behaviour patterns. In this workshop, through consideration of culture we get beneath the surface of forms of behaviour to begin to understand how other people think. As a result we are more able to reconcile the differences by taking the other person’s viewpoint into account as we express our ideas and desires. This course is not simply a set of social Do’s and Don’ts. It will help you to understand the basis for behaviour – and enable you to act accordingly.

Who should attend?

This workshop is ideal for all managers, team leaders and professionals who are concerned to maximise the effectiveness of cross-cultural teams. It is also relevant to HR professionals who have responsibility for ensuring that their organisation is non-discriminatory.

  • Distinguish the ways in which cultures vary
